Two people have been injured at Whakarewarewa The Living Māori Village in Rotorua after a geothermal hole opened up.
St John paramedics were called to the scene on Tyron St just after 2pm on Thursday, a spokesperson said.
One patient in a critical condition, and another with moderate injuries, were transported to Rotorua Hospital by ambulance.
Police said they were called about the incident just after 3pm, a spokesperson said.
Aukaha News reported at least one visitor fell into a hole after part of the road into the village collapsed due to thermal activity.
A video showed steam rising from a sinkhole, measuring about 2 square metres.
Locals first noticed steam rising from the area about a week ago and a cone was put in place by village staff, Aukaha News reported.
