A teenage girl who hit a tree while suspended from driving, allegedly killing one of her passengers, has been charged by police.
The white car was travelling along Cobden-Terang Road in the rural Victorian town of Terang, south west of Melbourne, when it crashed into a tree at 1.15am, Victoria Police say.
The driver and a passenger managed to get out before it burst into flames.
The other passenger, a 23-year-old man from the town of Warrnambool on Victoria’s south coast, died at the scene.
Both women were taken to hospital.
The female passenger, who is 21 and also from Warrnambool has serious injures, Victoria Police said.
The 19-year-old driver, who is from the town of Dixi, near to where the crash happened, has been charged with culpable driving causing death and drive whilst suspended.
She will appear at the Warrnambool Magistrates Court tomorrow.
