State Highway 35 closed between Ōpōtiki and Gisborne after eastbound lane falls into river – صحيفة الصوت

State Highway 35 between Ōpōtiki and Gisborne is closed, after the road’s eastbound lane fell into the Motu River.

On Wednesday night Waka Kotahi confirmed part of the road had collapsed along the centre line.

Traffic on SH35 had been reduced to a single lane due to a large crack in the road since Monday.

A detour is in place via SH2 through Waioeka Gorge.

Waka Kotahi is advising caution there, however, as traffic is reduced to a single lane due to underslip occurring 7km west of Matawai.

Earlier on Wednesday, Waka Kotahi said the state highway network had been hit hard by recent severe weather, with slips, drop-outs and flooding in a number of locations.

The transport agency said crews were actively monitoring the network to ensure the safety of all road users.
