My husband and I are visiting Switzerland and today at Ebenalp, on the trail between Äscher and Seelapsee we witnessed a hiker fall down a very steep hill in the woods. My husband tried to locate him while I used someone else’s phone to explain where we were on the trail to operators at 112. Unfortunately the cliff got too dangerous and he was unable to assist. We heard the rescue helicopter for a while after. We are pretty shook up by this and fear the worst for the poor fellow.

Is there any way we could find out if he was located and his condition? Do hiking incidents get reported on? Believe it or not I think this was the second incident today as the emergency operator asked if it was the one that happened an hour earlier, and seemed surprised when I said, no, it literally happened 2 minutes before.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: Thank you everyone for responding. As reported by a kind user below, we did now find out that the gentleman did not survive. My condolences to his family and friends. Please be safe on the trails.
