NASA has unveiled a new batch of images from the powerful new James Webb Space Telescope, a day after the first image was released at the White House.

The four additional photos released on Tuesday, July 12 (Wednesday, July 13 AEST) include more cosmic beauty shots.

With one exception, the latest images showed parts of the universe seen by other telescopes. But Webb’s sheer power, distant location off Earth and use of the infrared light spectrum showed them in new light.

This image shows the “Cosmic Cliffs” in the Carina Nebula, one of the bright stellar nurseries in the sky, about 7600 light-years away.

It “unveils the earliest, rapid phases of star formation that were previously hidden. Looking at this star-forming region in the southern constellation Carina, as well as others like it, Webb can see newly forming stars and study the gas and dust that made them”.
