Lydia Ko dropped shots on three of the final five holes in her second round at the Evian Championship.

Lydia Ko was sitting alone in third with five holes to play in her second round at the Evian Championship, the penultimate major championship of the year.

But a bogey on the par-three 14th, a double bogey on the par-three 16th, and another bogey on the par-five 18th left the world No 4 with plenty of work to do on the weekend in France.

She heads into the third round sitting in a tie for 11th, seven shots adrift of leader Brooke Henderson, the world No 10.

Ko recovered from her first setback with a birdie on the par-four 15th, before disaster struck on the following hole at the Evian Resort Golf Club.

She sent her tee shot wide of the green to the left, hitting a baggage cart, then took two attempts to get her ball back on the green, before missing her bogey putt.

She then ended up in a bunker on the 18th before missing her par putt to finish the day at seven-under.

Ko was just a single shot behind Henderson before dropping three shots in the final five holes while the Canadian world No 10 finished with three consecutive birdies to reach 14-under.

The Evian Championship was the site of Ko’s first major triumph in 2015 and she was right in contention after picking up five birdies in her first 12 holes on Friday.

She began the day in a tie for fifth at five-under and moved to 10-under after picking up shots on the par-four first, par-four sixth, par-five ninth, par-four 10th, and par-four 12th.

Then came her stumbles on the 14th, 16th, and 18th, which left her two-under for the day.

Nelly Korda was the closest competitor to Henderson, sitting three shots back at 11-under.

Henderson began the tournament, the fourth of five women’s majors, with back-to-back rounds of seven-under.
