Police are investigating a ram raid overnight at Noel Leeming in Auckland’s Botany.

Police said a car has smashed into a store on Wednesday about 10pm, damaging the store front.

Metal bars prevented the vehicle going further in, and nothing was stolen.

The Noel Leeming was boarded up on Thursday morning and a sign on the front said the shop would be closed for the day.

There was no police presence at the scene, but a mall guard was in attendance.

Police enquiries are ongoing.

A public meeting in May revealed roughly 200 children were doing most of the ram raid damage across Auckland.

This is not the first time Botany shopping centres have been targeted.

Earlier this month, another Botany Town Centre store was the target of a burglary.

Police received reports of two men entered the shop, taking several items and escaped in a car.

“We’re constantly watching what young people are putting up on social media, people glorify themselves not just ram-raiding, but doing things like police pursuits,” police area commander Jim Wilson previously said.

Despite this, criminologists worry that increasing penalties and detaining young people only embeds their behaviour further
