A passenger on board a hot air balloon which made an emergency landing in Melbourne’s west says he feared for his life.

The hot air balloon was forced to make an emergency landing among shipping containers in Docklands at 9am on Thursday.

The pilot was aiming for Royal Park in Parkville before a sudden wind change pushed the balloon towards Appleton docks in the Port of Melbourne.

Tristan Brunsdon was celebrating his 41st birthday with his partner. He was among the nine terrified passengers on board.

“I was kinda fearing for my life,” he said.

“I was definitely worried we would end up hitting something .”

After skimming shipping containers and power lines, the balloon hit the asphalt, narrowly avoiding the water.

“They were pulling out their cameras, all waving to us as we were coming down and crashing,” Brunsdon said.

“Thankfully no one was hurt, just a little shaken up.”
