Severe weather is on the cards for the Canterbury High Country, with expected heavy rain and strong wind bringing orange warnings.
The MetService issued the warnings, which are given when weather is expected to be a potential risk to people, animals and property, on Thursday morning, just days after heavy rain and wind lashed the High Country.
The orange heavy rain warning, for the headwaters of the Canterbury lakes and rivers about and south of Arthur’s Pass, has been issued as the expected downpours may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, and is valid from 8pm on Friday to 11am on Saturday.
“Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous,’’ the MetService says.
