NZ’s Jack Bauer crashes with car, motorbike on stage 18 of Tour de France – صحيفة الصوت

Kiwi Tour de France rider Jack Bauer was a furious figure after he crashed into the back of a team car during the 18th stage.

The BikeExchange-Jayco rider’s crash was a result of a chain reaction when the road narrowed and a race motorbike suddenly stopped, leading to Dutch rider Nils Eekhoff to come off his bike.

Bauer, who was chasing hard behind, was then caught between a UAE support car and a media motorbike as they slowed to miss the fallen rider, and closed a gap Bauer was eyeing.

Bauer hit the back window of the support car and crashed to the ground. He bounced to his feet quickly and gesticulated angrily at the motorbike. He offered up some colourful expletives.

“My gosh, is this the first Tour de France you have driven in?” he said.

It occurred with about 95km to go, in the 18th stage during the final day in the Pyrenees.

Both riders received medical care for their superficial injuries from the doctor’s car after their tumbles.

Two motorbikes were later expelled from the race.

The stage was won by current tour leader Jonas Vingegaard (Den/Jumbo-Visma).
