A mass power outage at Perth Airport has triggered chaos for passengers.

Travellers have been warned to expect delays after the airport cancelled all outbound services scheduled to depart before 7.30pm (local time).

“All inbound flights currently in the air will be able to arrive safely,” Perth Airport said.

“All scheduled flights into Perth which have not yet departed will be delayed until further notice.

“The safety of everyone who works in or is travelling through our airport remains our highest priority.

“We apologise to passengers and customers for any inconvenience.”

The cause is believed to be a power pole that has been impacted by the severe weather.

Western Power said it is working to resolve the issue.

In the meantime, Perth Airport has generators to supply some light.

The incident has affected baggage drop-off as well as most of the baggage carousels.

9News understands travellers in one plane on the tarmac have been waiting to leave for more than an hour.

The incident has also affected the air bridges, which has affected some passengers disembarking from their flights.

One traveller told 9News he got to the airport and the doors were shut.

“No one can do anything,” he said.

Another traveller said “we don’t know what we’re doing”.

“We don’t know if we’re meant to be back in a hotel or finding somewhere to stay,” he said.
