Live: Commonwealth Games, day four action from Birmingham – صحيفة الصوت

Track cycling star Ellesse Andrews has the chance to join elite company when she lines up in the women’s keirin on day four of the Commonwealth Games.

Andrews chases a third gold medal of these Games just after 4.30am (NZT) on Tuesday in the event she won silver in at the Tokyo Olympics.

She would join track and field great Yvette Williams (1954) and fellow track cyclist Gary Anderson (1990) as the only New Zealanders to win three golds at one Commonwealth Games, if she can get through the preliminary rounds and do the job in the medal race.

The final day the velodrome also features strong New Zealand medal chances in the men’s points race, 1km time trial and women’s scratch race, after they boosted the gold tally to six via Corbin Strong early on Monday (NZT).

The day opens with the women’s four and para men’s pair in bowls semifinals while at the pool, backstroker Andrew Jeffcoat is a strong medal hope in the 50m backstroke final.

Weightlifters Cameron McTaggart, Emma McIntyre and Megan Signal, and judoka Qona Christie, get under way in their respective medal events. In the team sports, the women’s 3×3 basketballers eye a potential semifinal, the Silver Ferns continue against Malawi and the Black Sticks men face a daunting match against Australia.
