After the rush of 10 New Zealand medals including three golds on day six, it’s a bit more sedate in Birmingham on Thursday night (NZT) with a handful of leading prospects.
Top of that list is cyclist Aaron Gate who chases his fourth gold of these Commonwealth Games when he hits the road for the men’s time trial alongside pursuit gold medal-winning team-mate Tom Sexton.
The men set off near Wolverhampton from 11pm NZT, two hours after the women as Henrietta Christie, Mikayla Harvey and Georgia Williams first try to boost cycling’s impressive medal haul.

Bowler Shannon McIlroy kicks the action off for New Zealand on day seven then it’s the women’s Black Sticks who face South Africa at 8pm with a likely semifinal against hosts England looming.
At the track there’s qualifying for the women’s hammer throw with three New Zealanders including 2018 champion Julia Ratcliffe, while high jumper Keeley O’Hagan and 1500m runner Sam Tanner also get under way.
Discus thrower Connor Bell hurls for medals at 7.40am, boxers Troy Garton, Wendell Stanley and Uila Mau’u look to win their quarterfinals and a guaranteed medal, before the Silver Ferns will determine their semifinal opponents with a match against the confident hosts England at 8am.
The team sports are heating up, with the White Ferns testing their unbeaten record against England (first ball 5am) ahead of their semifinals.
Squash men’s singles gold medallist Paul Coll teams up with Joelle King in a round of 16 match, in pursuit of another Commonwealth Games gold in the mixed doubles.
