This is a 28cc V8 engine running on nitro and capable of revving over 12,000rpm.

While V8 engines might be on their way out, there are still a few holdouts. Ford, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi all offer V8s in various models, but they cost upward of $80,000, more in the case of the Europeans. So how about one you can buy for $2800?

Admittedly it doesn’t come with a car around it like those others do, and you probably wouldn’t want to fit it into anything bigger than an RC car because it only produces 3.1kW, displaces an entire 28ccs and is barely bigger than a finger.

But it uses a 90-degree crossplane crankshaft, water cooling and dual carburettors, twin mufflers, while running on nitrofuel.

Toyan, the creator of the engine, has confirmed it will be making more variants of the tiny V8 in the future, including ones with flat-plane cranks and petrol compatibility.

Check out the video above to hear it in action – it showcases the build process of the engine, and the owner revs it out towards the end. It sounds pretty damn angry too, similar to a worked hillclimb V8-powered racer.

But if you’d rather one from New Zealand, RCHobbies has a bunch of similar quarter-scale V8s available.

The cheapest is a 327 Chevrolet V8 mimicry at $4999, or you can get a supercharged version for $6999. There’s even a Cosworth one-third scale 3.0-litre Formula 1 V8 listed, although it doesn’t have a price…
