Hello everyone. I have been living in Switzerland for four years and became a mother in the process. Although my baby is still too young, I am looking into the Swiss school system and the differences (apart from the cost) between public and private schools. Talking to friends of mine, I have heard a couple of absurd stories, at least from my point of view, where some children at the age of 7-8 years can still neither read nor write in the public school. I don’t expect my daughter to know how to solve quadratic equations at the age of 6, but neither do I expect her to be completely illiterate. I attended an information day on the school system in my area (Zurich) and the school system did not seem so bad to me on paper. Have I been told about borderline cases? What experiences have you had with the Swiss state school system? Given the financial opportunity, does private schooling really offer a more advanced education? I hope to read good news!
