Police say they are speaking to five people after a shooting at a rural Queensland cattle farm.
Two men and a woman were shot dead on the property at Bogie in the Mackay region on Thursday morning.
A third man is in a serious but stable condition at Mackay Base Hospital with a wound to his stomach.
Mackay district Superintendent Tom Armitt said the survivor, who called triple zero, was “extremely critical” when he was found in a vehicle after fleeing the shooting.
“We believe that the male was able to extract himself from the area when he was spoken to by a police officer many many kilometres away from the crime scene,” he said.
It’s not known who are the five people who are speaking to police or how they may be connected to the shooting.
All Queensland Police have said of the group is that “five people are assisting detectives with their inquiries to establish the events of today”.
“Police do not believe there is any ongoing danger to members of the public,” they said.
“All people involved are known to each other and investigations are continuing.”
An exclusion zone around the property was set up about 11.30am after police responded to reports of a shooting on the isolated farm.
“It’s taken a number of hours for police to search and clear the area, however we have found a crime scene in a remote rural area,” Armitt said earlier.
“At this stage, we are at very, very early stages of our investigation.
“We do not know who is responsible.”
Armitt also said it was believed the victims were all family members.
Detectives have declared several crimes scenes in the area.
A forensics team will conduct examinations in the morning.
