Timaru residents have been urged to save as much water as possible as supply runs low.

Residents of the Timaru District have been urged to save as much water as possible as the supply runs dangerously close to running out.

The council issued the plea on Friday afternoon and said the matter was urgent.

“Following the bad weather earlier in the week, we have been unable to take enough water from either of our sources to meet demand, so are at risk of having to put a boil water notice in place.

“Everyone can do their bit to avoid this. Please conserve water urgently over this weekend.”

“Please limit domestic water use. Keep showers as short as possible and only run appliances when completely full.

“Every drop counts.”

The council has also asked users to stop all outdoor water usage immediately.

Industry and commercial users have also been asked to significantly lower their water use, it said.

The council first issued a plea to conserve water on July 19.
