Bryony Botha sent flying after running over the top of another rider at Commonwealth Games – صحيفة الصوت

New Zealand double medal winner Bryony Botha went flying over the handlebars during another massive crash at the Commonwealth Games after running over the top of a fellow competitor.

Botha crashed out of the women’s 10km scratch race, where team-mate Michaela Drummond picked up a silver medal, after she was unable to avoid a sliding Meenakshi Meenakshi of India and rode straight over the top of her.

Botha suffered minor injuries but was able to walk away, while Meenakshi required oxygen and had to be stretchered off the track at the Lee Valley VeloPark following the frightening incident, which occured on lap 17.

The crash happened 24 hours after another New Zealand rider, George Jackson, was caught up in a freak crash that injured multiple riders and spectators.

England’s Matt Walls went flying over the barriers and into the crowd but somehow managed to escape without any serious injury.

The women’s scratch race was won by England’s Laura Kenny, giving the host nation its first gold on the track.

Despite losing team-mate Botha, Drummond rode brilliantly to secure a silver medal, adding to New Zealand’s record haul of 13 cycling medals.

“Once we had the restart it was about readjusting the plan, because the idea was to have Bryony there with me, so it was about following the moves and just doing the best we can,” Drummond said.
