President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on Monday (1) nominated federal judges Messod Azulay, TRF-2 (Federal Regional Court for the 2nd Region), and Paulo Sergio Domingues, TRF-3, for the two vacancies on the STJ. The Superior Court of Justice is the highest appellate court in Brazil for non-constitutional questions of federal law.

According to a widely read newspaper column, the nominations come as a surprise since Ney Bello’s name appeared as a favorite for one of the positions.
