Aussie TV on Kiwi cost of living: ‘They’re eating snails from the garden’ – صحيفة الصوت

A journalist on Australian breakfast TV has described the cost of living in New Zealand as “so expensive” that Kiwis are resorting to eating snails from the garden and not using toilet paper.

Journalist Angela Mollard made the comments on Channel 7’s The Morning Show on Monday, during a panel segment called “What’s the buzz”.

While offering her analysis of inflation in Australia, Mollard said the financial squeeze Australians were feeling was worse elsewhere.

“Our inflation is significantly less than other places in the world,” Mollard said.

“In New Zealand, they are eating snails from the garden and using water spray instead of toilet paper because it’s so expensive.”

The comments appear to be based on a story published by Stuff in June, which featured frugal individuals going to extreme lengths to eat cheaply and sustainably.

Those people included Julia Sich, who likes to forage for food and runs workshops to teach others to do the same.

Kate Todd, who eats snails with garlic from her suburban garden with her “green-fingered” partner, was also interviewed.

“We fed them oatmeal for a while to get all their poo out, then cooked them with garlic. Chewy but fine,” Todd said.

Stuff has approached Channel 7 and Mollard for comment.
