قضى التطور التكنولوجي وتقنيات الدواء بشكل شبه كامل على بعض الأمراض التي كانت تفتك بالإنسان قديماً مثل الملاريا والسل والكوليرا، لكن لهذا التطور ضريبة يدفعها الإنسان، حيث ظهرت أمراض جديدة مرتبطة بأنماط الحياة العصرية التي تعتمد على الجلوس لفترات طويلة.

مرض جديد يستشري خصوصاً بين طلاب المدارس، إنه مرض قصر النظر الذي قالت مجلة «إيكونوميست» إنه أصبح «وباء»، والسبب في ذلك هو التعليم.

ويصيب «قصر النظر» طلاب المدارس ويهدد بحدوث مشكلات صحية كبيرة في المراحل التالية من حياتهم، والسبب في ذلك هو الجلوس في قاعات الدراسة لفترات طويلة.
